R.A.P. has been a leader in advocating for the youth voice in Kent since 2017. Restore Assemble Produce Youth's history includes working with YPAR experts, professionals, university professors, community activists, etc., in each research area to assist the youth in conducting YPAR activities. The youth become educated on the real problems, learn how systems work, and then plan and practice solutions in areas such as business, economics, social justice, education, health, and overall well-being.
Cyphers for Justice is a youth and educator development program housed within the Edmund W. Gordon Institute for Urban and Minority Education (GIUME) at Columbia University, Teachers College, and the CUNY College Now Program at Queens College. CFJ apprentices NYC high school youth and educators as critical researchers through the use of hip hop, spoken word, digital literacy, and critical social research methods. Founded within the traditions of Youth Participatory Action Research and hip hop culture, CFJ youth work alongside Columbia University students, professors, and community-based teaching artists to conduct research and present their findings on relevant social issues.
The YPAR Nexus includes several resources, tools, and activities to support communities/organizations in starting (and continuing) YPAR initiatives. Recognizing that each context is unique and specific needs will vary, the resources are designed to be downloaded and modified to align with your team's needs, goals, and priorities.
